Purple State Democrat Faces Demands She Resign after She Posts Image Calling for Trump to Be Beheaded
In a typical display of Trump Derangement Syndrome, North Carolina Representative Julie von Haefen (D) shared a video from a Raleigh "No Kings" demonstration. The video showed a protester holding a sign featuring a guillotine with a figure resembling President Trump. The Democrat received severe online criticism after posting the content. She later disabled her social media profiles.
The N.C. GOP and House Speaker Destin Hall called for her resignation. Jason Simmons led the Republican response. Both officials condemned her actions as shameful and risky. They pointed to recent political violence as context for their concerns. Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert also criticized the imagery. He called it divisive and unsuitable.
The Democrat offered an apology for her poor judgment. She stated, "Yesterday, I posted a video on social media containing crowd photos from the No Kings protest in Raleigh. One of the images of a protester holding a sign was inappropriate, and I later edited the video to remove the photo."
Von Haefen expanded her statement of regret. She declared, "Let me be clear: I condemn political violence in all forms. My focus remains on bringing people together and fighting for the values that matter to North Carolinians. Like so many, I was horrified by the violence in Minnesota. There is no place for that kind of extremism in our democracy, no matter the target, no matter the party."
Jason Simmons offered sharp criticism of her serious mistakes. The N.C. GOP Chairman responded, "The posts Rep. von Haefen shared do not show the judgment or temperament of someone to hold public office. For the good of her constituents to have effective representation, she should resign."

House Speaker Destin Hall condemned the violent language. He declared, "Her disgraceful behavior fails to meet the standards expected from House members and sets a dangerous precedent in an already volatile political climate. I am examining next steps with our legislative attorneys to ensure this behavior does not continue."
Hall continued his statement. He said, "On the same weekend that a gunman in Minnesota targeted state lawmakers in an act of political violence, and after two attempted assassinations of President Trump within the past year, Representative von Haefen shared an image of a 'protest sign' that glorifies violence against her political opponents- including President Donald Trump."
Mayor Jacques Gilbert offered his own criticism. He stated, "While freedom of expression is a protected right, imagery that invokes violence crosses a moral line. I do not condone this. It promotes division, not dialogue — and stands in direct contrast to the values we hold dear in Apex."
A conservative commentator expressed outrage at von Haefen's actions. They wrote on social media, "Julie von Haefen should be nowhere near state power. She posted a guillotine with Trump's head on it—on the same weekend Americans honored the military. This is what happens when you elect radical activists instead of adults."
The commentator finished their statement. They added, "She's pushed union garbage, tampon bills, and now graphic political violence. Remove her now—or wait until the next left-wing maniac decides to "follow through." There's no "context" for political beheading fantasies. Expel her."
