Henry relocated from Texas to Los Angeles with his daughter Sophie when she reached seven years old. She prepared to begin second grade at her new school.

"Here we are at your new school, Sophie. Do you feel excited?" Henry asked his daughter during drop-off.

"I think so," Sophie replied while twisting her fingers around her skirt nervously. "What happens if nobody likes me?"

Henry kissed her forehead and reassured her. "They will like you. You need to be kind to everyone. If someone treats you badly, walk away. Don't start any fights, okay?"

Sophie waved goodbye and walked into the school building. She found her classroom quickly and noticed all the other students were already seated inside.

Every child's eyes grew wide when they saw her enter. Several students gasped audibly. Sophie stopped at the doorway and looked around with confusion.

Her new classmates began turning their heads back and forth between Sophie and another girl seated at the back of the room. Sophie tried to see the other student and spotted blonde hair.

One boy suddenly shouted, "It's Sandra's clone!"

Sophie then saw the girl at the back of the classroom and gasped at what she observed. The girl appeared identical to her!

Sandra stood up and stared at the new student with her mouth open wide. "Wow! We look like twins!" she said excitedly and smiled broadly.

Sophie felt relief immediately and smiled back at Sandra. "Yes. But how is this possible? I don't have any sisters," she answered.

"I don't have sisters either! Only my mom and I live together," Sandra explained and jumped toward Sophie, grabbing her hand. "Come sit beside me."

The two girls talked for several minutes while other children approached them. Miss Carr, their teacher, entered the classroom afterward.

"We have a new student today named Sophie Douglas. Please come say hello," the teacher announced and suddenly made a small "Oh" sound.

"Miss Carr, she looks exactly like Sandra!" one student commented as Sophie walked to the front of the classroom.

"Hello, my name is Sophie. I enjoy reading books and visiting the beach with my dad. We moved here from Texas, and I feel excited about making new friends," Sophie said and smiled at everyone.

Miss Carr clapped her hands as the rest of the class joined in applauding. "That's wonderful, Sophie. You appear to have a twin in our class. How amazing! You can sit down now. Today we will learn about frogs," Miss Carr began her lesson right away.

Sophie spent the entire day playing with Sandra and all her friends. The two girls formed a bond more quickly than anyone expected. After school ended, Sophie described everything about Sandra to her father, including how identical they appeared.

Henry grew curious about meeting Sandra after hearing about her for a full week. He decided to contact Sandra's mother to discuss the situation. They planned a playdate and agreed to meet at McDonald's several days after Sophie's first school day.

Sandra walked into the restaurant with her mother, Wendy. Henry's mouth dropped open in shock. He realized his daughter had told the truth completely. Wendy also gasped after seeing Sophie.

"Oh my goodness! Hello! You must be Sophie. Sandra has discussed you with me all week long. You two truly appear like twins!" Wendy said with a large smile.

The girls ran to the playground while the adults remained to talk privately.

"Hello, I'm Henry. Nice to meet you," Henry said while shaking Wendy's hand.

They sat at one of the booths and continued their conversation. Wendy repeated her amazement about the situation.

"I cannot believe this. I've heard about lookalikes, but this must be different," Wendy observed while watching the girls play.

"Sandra doesn't know this information yet, but I adopted her. Did you give birth to Sophie?" Wendy asked.

"Yes. My former wife, Irene, learned she was expecting after we split up and delivered her. We shared parenting duties, but Irene passed away one year ago. Now I have complete custody. I worried about Sophie, you understand," Henry explained rapidly. "She recently lost her mother, and I needed to relocate here for my job. Those changes are overwhelming for her. But Sandra has been a blessing. Sophie has smiled all week and discussed everything they share. I cannot express enough gratitude to your daughter."

"Which place did you move from?" Wendy inquired.

"Texas. We lived in Dallas," Henry answered.

"Hmm," Wendy murmured while resting her chin on her hand.

"What is it?" Henry asked, looking puzzled at the woman.

"I hesitate to mention this. But I think Sandra was also born in Texas," Wendy disclosed, running her tongue across her lips nervously. "I need to examine her birth certificate again. But could there be a possibility your deceased former wife delivered twins?"

"I don't think so. I wasn't present with her because of work obligations. But no. That cannot be true. I came back one week after she gave birth. She had already departed from the hospital, and I met Sophie at her house. This situation cannot be possible," Henry responded, blinking rapidly while trying to process the information.

"Were you and she getting along well during that time?" Wendy asked.

"If she believed you would be absent frequently, perhaps she thought raising two children would be too difficult," Wendy proposed as gently as possible.

"Are you suggesting she might have surrendered one child and raised the other?" Henry questioned, still unable to accept that Irene would have placed one of their babies for adoption. "Our relationship was troubled, which caused our separation. But this situation is just... I cannot find words to express my feelings."

"Could we discover the truth somehow?" Wendy asked again.

"I suppose I could contact the hospital, and we could examine records," Henry muttered, remaining stunned while running his fingers through his hair.

The girls returned at that moment and announced their hunger, so this discussion needed to wait for another day.

Several days passed before Henry left Sophie at Wendy's house and traveled back to Texas. He spoke with hospital employees and questioned as many people as possible. Eventually, one compassionate nurse felt sorry for him and found that Irene had delivered two infants.

Sadly, Henry would never understand why she made the difficult choice to surrender one baby, but he believed he was responsible. I abandoned her to deliver alone, and I was absent during most of her pregnancy. This mistake is mine. She likely knew about the twins and chose not to inform me.

However, he could not change what had already happened. He could only move forward and attempt to fix things.

After his return, he and Wendy obtained a DNA test for Sandra, which proved their theory correct. Henry made it clear that Wendy remained the girl's mother. He would never attempt to divide them.

The adults gathered with the girls and explained everything as clearly as possible, which required telling Sandra about her adoption. The twins celebrated with joy and embraced each other, shouting, "We're sisters! We're sisters!"

Henry and Wendy could only laugh at their reaction, pleased that they felt so happy. They needed to handle this difficult situation because Henry wanted to father Sandra, but Wendy was uncertain about her role in Sophie's life.

They ultimately chose to share parenting as if both children belonged to them legally, and this arrangement worked wonderfully. The girls adapted to this new routine more easily than the adults did, and everything felt perfect.

One evening, Sophie said something that surprised Henry completely.

"Dad, why don't you marry Wendy? Then she could become my mom as well."

"Oh sweetheart, that's complicated. Wendy and I are simply good friends," he replied.

"I'll always remember my mom. But I like Wendy. I believe she could be beneficial for you as well," Sophie pressed.

Henry smiled. "We'll see what happens."

His daughter seemed to predict what would occur. Eventually, he and Wendy began a romantic relationship. They married when the girls reached twelve years old, and both served as bridesmaids.
