Fans left in shock over Melania’s ‘Trump dance’
Donald Trump has performed the Village People's song YMCA at his campaign events for many years. His dance has gained recognition as he sways his hips from side to side and raises his fists up and down. He is not the only person performing this dance now.
Donald Trump has accomplished many things during his presidency. People may not remember his policies or presidential work, but his dance moves will remain memorable. Trump's dance became popular online and started a trend among athletes.
Many athletes copied his dance moves during games and matches. San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa provided one famous example. Before Super Bowl LIX last year, Donald Trump discussed his dance moves with Fox. He stated he never expected his dance moves to become popular online.
"We do these rallies. They've always been great, but they got really great, and I don't know what it is," Donald Trump said. "I try and walk off sometimes without dancing and I can't. I have to dance because it's just, it just got something special about it."
Donald Trump's use of YMCA at his rallies has received both positive responses and criticism. The Village People group has responded multiple times to Trump using their song over the years. In 2020, the band posted on Facebook, "Our music is all-inclusive and certainly everyone is entitled to do the 'YMCA dance, regardless of their political affiliation." They added they would "prefer our music be kept out of politics."
MAGA supporters may have enjoyed and continue to enjoy the president's dancing. His political allies have tried copying the dance with varying results.

Melania Trump's opinion of Donald's dancing
Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and former Governor of South Dakota, once tried to copy Donald's dance. One Twitter user called it one of the "strangest" clips from a Trump rally.
Another user posted, "The cringeworthy moment my Gov @GovKristiNoem realizes she won't be moderating questions for Trump from the audience but rather be forced to dance around for 40 minutes with her failed leader. Sheesh, that's harsh reality there. Hard not to chuckle."
Donald Trump enjoys his dancing. His wife, Melania Trump, has watched her husband perform his moves on stage. What does she think of her husband's dance? In a December 2024 interview with Fox, Melania described Donald's dance as looking "happy and loose."
"I'm sure you've seen that evolve… as you look right there, how do you describe your husband's dance moves?" host Steve Doocy asked while showing a clip from one of Donald Trump's dance performances.
Melania chuckled and said it was a "special and unique" dance. She added that "People are copying it and everybody have fun with it." She did not say whether she had given her husband dance advice, but shared he "came up with it on his own."

Melania Trump performing the "Donald Dance" creates reactions
Had she attempted the dance herself? Melania said no. This changed when the US marked its 249th Independence Day.
Donald Trump and Melania Trump stood on the White House balcony. The president performed the "Trump Dance" by punching the air while moving his hips.
He was not the only one dancing. During the dance routine, Melania Trump suddenly moved her open hands with palms up and down while bouncing on her feet. Fans noticed how the First Lady of the United States started dancing. People had different opinions about whether this was a good choice.
"Melania dancing with Trump shows what real leadership looks like: joyful, authentic, and connected to the people. This is America at its best. Happy 4th!" one user posted on X.
"The Trumps know how to party," another person added. A third person said, "Melania is the best FLOTUS America has ever had."
"Melania didn't sign up for romance," one social media user claims
Not everyone thought the dancing was positive. Another user in the same discussion posted, "Of course Melania's out there mimicking Trump's goofy little air-punch dance—because every second of their public life is scripted for show. The fireworks, the fake smiles, the swaying hips—it's all theater for the cameras."
The user continued, "But let's not get it twisted: this is a contractual marriage. There's no love here, just obligation, image management, and financial strategy. Every photo op is a transaction. Trust and believe, Melania didn't sign up for romance—she signed up for control, conditions, and a calculated exit plan."
