Democrats Defend Woke Purple State Legislator Who Called for Trump to Be Beheaded, Faces Calls for Resignation
After a North Carolina House member called for President Donald Trump's execution through disturbing social media content, numerous fellow Democrats from her party in this battleground state have chosen to support her instead of acknowledging her terrible actions.
Julie von Haefen, an extreme-left Democrat representative from North Carolina, shared footage from a Raleigh "No Kings" demonstration during nationwide protests and violent anti-ICE disturbances in Los Angeles. Her post featured imagery of a guillotine showing a figure that looked like President Trump. This content sparked widespread anger and resignation demands. Von Haefen removed her account but has not stepped down from office and shows no signs she plans to do so.
The Democrat offered an explanation for her inappropriate conduct, stating: "Yesterday, I shared content on social media with crowd pictures from the No Kings rally in Raleigh. One picture showed a protester with a sign that was inappropriate, and I later changed the content to exclude that photo."
Julie von Haefen expanded her statement: "Let me be clear: I oppose all political violence. My goal stays focused on uniting people and supporting values that matter to North Carolinians. Like many others, I was disturbed by the violence in Minnesota. Such extremism has no place in our democracy, regardless of the target or political party."
She declined to step down despite strong demands from conservatives who wanted to remove someone willing to share such offensive material from the legislature. While she did not directly state her position on resignation, she remains in office and appears unlikely to leave voluntarily. Her Democratic colleagues have supported her decision to stay.
Anderson Clayton, who leads the North Carolina Democratic Party, used this situation to criticize Republicans and claim they promote political violence, ignoring the central issue of the representative's apparent call for Trump's execution.

Clayton argued that Republicans are actually the violent ones, pointing to two other North Carolina political figures as proof. She stated: "The NCGOP spent the past year funding campaigns for Mark Robinson and Michele Morrow after both repeatedly promoted political violence."
Clayton continued defending Representative von Haefen by claiming both individuals had similarly promoted political violence: "Morrow wanted to execute people from Barack Obama to our Governor Roy Cooper. During his campaign, Robinson loudly stated that 'some folks need killing' and mocked Paul Pelosi on social media after someone attempted to kill him."
Clayton then referenced the killings of state lawmakers in Minnesota as additional evidence, while overlooking that the suspected murderer's political beliefs remain unknown. She announced: "This fake anger about a picture in a video to exploit the recent Minnesota tragedy sounds extremely empty and represents a desperate effort to shift the story after tens of thousands of North Carolinians who marched this weekend to reject their policies."
Von Haefen delivered her apology to the legislature while refusing to resign from her position.
