Karoline Leavitt, only 27 years old, has quickly moved from serving ice cream in her New Hampshire hometown to becoming the direct, outspoken voice of the Trump administration at the White House podium.

Once wanting to be a journalist, she now stands as one of the media's strongest critics — and has emerged as a conservative Gen Z figure of influence.

Her recent comment about President Biden has created significant criticism, with many people labeling her as "rude" and "disrespectful."

This is how a small-town girl transformed into a Washington political figure and created a new controversy — and why her statement is generating much discussion on social media.

Former President Joe Biden gave an uncommon public speech this week about Social Security — but while many watched for his message, a comment from the current White House press secretary captured attention and produced widespread criticism.

Karoline Leavitt, at 27 the youngest press secretary in American history and a strong Trump supporter, spoke frankly when asked about Biden's speech.

"My first reaction when seeing former President Biden was speaking tonight was, I'm shocked that he is speaking at nighttime," Leavitt said. "I thought his bedtime was much earlier than his speech tonight."

This remark, clearly targeting Biden's age, quickly spread across social media platforms.

Respect Issues?

Although Leavitt did make a more substantial policy statement — highlighting Donald Trump's pledge to protect Social Security — her opening sentence became the main topic of discussion.

"President Trump is absolutely certain about protecting Social Security benefits for law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens and seniors who have paid into this program," she said.

"He will always protect this program. He campaigned on it. He protected it in his first term, and he's back again to continue protecting it."

For many people, these points failed to make up for what they viewed as basic disrespect.

"Very rude..."

Users on Facebook and Instagram expressed clear disapproval of Leavitt's approach.

"No class at all. Shame on you. How old is your HUSBAND? You will be saying the same thing not far away," wrote one person, noting that Leavitt's husband is 32 years older than she is.

"Very rude. She's talking about a former US President. He deserves at least respect!" another person stated.

"Ok, so, although I do usually like her blunt nature, however, this was immature and disrespectful," said another. "I did not care for President Biden, but he was still our President, and he is still a person."

Other responses included: "Inappropriate"

"So juvenile, disrespectful, and classless."

"That is just so wrong to say, didn't need! But I am not surprised from you!"

"Why do they always have to be so rude and condescending. Finger pointing name calling. You are there as the spokesperson. This isn't an audition. Sick of this"

Even her supporters showed disappointment. One Instagram follower stated, "She does a great job, but don't think her comments are appropriate. Should be above that." Another remarked, "Karoline, you crossed the line!"

Biden's Address to Trump

Biden, delivering remarks at a Chicago conference organized by the Advocates, Counselors, and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD), took the chance to discuss Social Security concerns. This speech marked his first significant public event since leaving the White House in January.

"They want to let social security expire every five years – that was a proposal – unless re-authorized by the Congress. Who the hell do they think they are?"

Biden highlighted his administration's efforts to secure nearly $2 billion for improved customer service and reduced wait times, while criticizing his successor for increasing the debt ceiling after giving what Biden described as a "profligate tax" cut to the extremely wealthy.

"Last time this guy had the job he raised the debt ceiling because of an enormous and profligate tax to the super wealthy."

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries commented, "This is an all hands on deck moment, which is why President Biden's voice in this moment is so important."

Biden criticized recent actions by the Trump administration, including widespread Social Security Administration layoffs and disputed data-sharing plans involving Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. Musk has described Social Security as "the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time."

Jason Turkish, a disability attorney representing more than 30,000 clients, expressed growing concern. "We go from Republican to Democrat, Democrat to Republican and there's always been a belief that Social Security is just something we do not touch," he stated.

Turkish did point out that the SSA has recently relaxed some stricter ID requirements, calling this "a hopeful sign."

"I love America. You love it too"

Biden's speech followed his January 15 farewell address, where he expressed gratitude to Americans after five decades of public service.

"I still believe in the idea for which this nation stands, a nation where the strengths of our institutions and the character of our people matter and must endure," he stated.

He concluded with a plea for unity and optimism:

"Now it's your turn to stand guard. May you all be the keeper of the flame. May you keep the faith. I love America. You love it too. God bless you all. And may God protect our troops."

As Biden returns to public life and political tensions increase around Social Security, Karoline Leavitt's remarks will likely continue to spark debate — across political divides.

Did her comments go beyond acceptable limits? Or is she simply expressing what many think but hesitate to say aloud? One certainty remains — in today's political climate, even a brief comment can trigger intense controversy.
