Each year, the Easter Egg Roll at the White House serves as a joyful spring custom where countless youngsters gather on the South Lawn to hunt eggs, play games, and meet the President.

This occasion goes beyond a simple spring celebration – it represents a slice of American heritage spanning almost 150 years.

"Casual festivities began with egg-rolling gatherings during President Abraham Lincoln's time," notes the White House, but the tradition formally began in 1878 under President Rutherford B. Hayes. Hayes, the 19th President, welcomed children to roll Easter eggs on the White House South Lawn after Congress banned this activity on Capitol Hill because it damaged the grounds.

This started one of the most treasured presidential customs in the nation.

Egg Search Takes Unexpected Direction

Currently, the White House Easter Egg Roll continues as a happy, family-oriented tradition combining history, politics, and spring enjoyment – all happening on the famous lawn of the President's home.

This year, CBS News states that about 30,000 actual eggs were distributed across the lawn for the April 21 celebration.

Beyond the odd choice to use real eggs when their prices are at peak levels, something more unusual occurred.

As former President Donald Trump met children during the event, a photo captured a disturbing detail that startled internet users – and sparked new debate about the Republican figure's decision-making abilities.

Bloody Picture

While many expected baskets filled with eggs and rabbit ears, the 78-year-old President – who has 10 grandchildren – took out a special trading card, smiling as he showed the young children the bloody image.

Unlike baseball statistics or motivational sayings, this card showed a moment from one of the most frightening days in recent political events.

Murder Attempt

On July 13, 2023, during a campaign rally, a shooter named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at Trump from a building roof in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump barely survived death, with bullets hitting just inches from critical organs.

Although Trump lived and later won back the presidency, the event included tragedy. Corey Comperatore, a dedicated father of two and volunteer fire chief, died while protecting others in the crowd. The attempted killer, aged 20, was also shot dead.

The incident was terrifying, burned into the nation's memory – and, evidently, printed on a collector's card that Trump was eager to display.

'His Mind Needs Scientific Study'

Sharp-eyed Reddit users spotted the graphic souvenir, quickly expressing their shock over the president showing the alarming picture to impressionable young children.

"Forget chocolate and bunnies, let's discuss that occasion someone attempted to murder me. For a dad of five and grandparent to several children, you might expect he would understand what content suits kids," comments one Reddit user in the heated exchange featuring an image of Trump displaying the card for children to view.

Another person remarks, "'Hey youngsters, look at this image of me with blood dripping from my ear! Two individuals perished in this murder attempt, including the shooter. Anyway, Happy Easter!'

Completely typical conversation with Elementary School children. 'Here's a mock baseball card showing my bloodied face. Impressive, right?'"

"His mind requires scientific examination. A research subject demonstrating what happens when everything malfunctions," suggests a third commenter.

"Personally, I prefer Cadbury Cream Eggs, but assassination attempt collector cards rank about 37th on my list of Easter enjoyments," writes a fourth internet commenter. Someone else adds, "Anyone permitting their children near that individual should lose custody. He's 1000 times more concerning than your strange uncle."

'They captured Jesus'

One more internet user proposes that Trump utilized the card to demonstrate that he, unlike Jesus, could not be executed.

"I can practically hear him," the Reddit user begins. "'They captured Jesus. They got him because he was a feeble illegal immigrant sent to the Nazareth area of Earth by dishonest Joe Biden and the extreme left. They tried to get me but failed.'"

Replying to this post, another person states, "I think it's about naive people accepting that someone evaded an assassination attempt. Sadly, we didn't receive the three days of quiet this time."
